Getting out of the comfort zone

our viewSometimes, when I am feeling a bit stuck, I walk. I look at Lake Michigan. But today, it’s cold. And icy. On days like that, I step away from the manuscript and try and tackle something short and different and

difficult.

In other words: I step out of my comfort zone.

This morning, I did this because I knew I had a hard scene to write (You know the kind…it is a hot spot and needs to accomplish a whole lot?)

So I wrote a poem.

(That would be something I’m not good at.)

Now I’m ready to tackle the scene. It doesn’t feel quite so daunting.
